en savoir plusHow are DALI ECGs addressed?
DALI ECGs can be addressed individually, in groups or all together.
Is DALI a new digital installation bus system?
No! DALI is simply a new digital communication standard for lighting systems. It fills the gap between previous 1...10 V technology and complex bus systems.

Can control and power cables be laid together?
Yes, a 5x1.5 mm2 NYM cable can be used for example.

Is there a limit, and if yes, what is the maximum length of the DALI control line?
The length of the control line is limited only by the drop in voltage.
The maximum line length between the DALI control unit and the furthest DALI control gear is 300 m.
What cross-section do you recommend for the control line?
Can existing 1...10 V control lines be used?
Yes, provided they are rated for mains voltage and have the required minimum cross-section.
Was passiert, wenn ein Steuergerät defekt ist?
Durch Kappen der Steuerleitung können alle EVG eingeschaltet werden.
Can control units of various manufacturers be combined in one installation?
Not at all. DALI ECGs are interchangeable but control components normally cannot be combined.
Can DALI ECGs of various manufacturers be operated in one installation?
Yes, they can. DALI is a standard developed by the lighting industry. ECGs carrying the DALI logo are compatible. They may differ in quality, such as different lamp starting times and dimming ranges..
Will there be more DALI devices in the future?
Absolutely. For example for LED or low-voltage halogen lamps.
Where is the data for group assignments and scene light values stored?
Directly in the ECG.
Who is allowed to develop a DALI control unit or DALI ECGs?
There are no restrictions, except that the DALI logo may only be used by members of the DALI Activity Group (www.dali-ag.org).
What's the difference between DSI and DALI?
DSI is a corporate solution and not a general standard like DALI.
DSI does not allow addressing, it is therefore not possible to form groups freely or check individual lamps for faults.
Groups have to be formed by wiring, like applications with 1...10 V.
What happens in a case of ECG failure?
The ECG has to be replaced and its parameters have to be set up again, depending on the control unit.
Is it possible to receive feedback messages from DALI ECGs?
Yes, you can check all the device settings and the device status, such as lamp faults.
Do you have to take into account the group assignment with DALI when wiring up the system?
No, the groups are generally assigned (addressed) when the system is started up.
What insulation is required for the DALI control line?
The same as for 1...10 V: The control line must be approved for mains voltage.
It is allowed to lay the control line of 1...10-V- or DALI- together with the mains line, as e.g. in a NYM cable.
An additional insulation in a typical luminaire of protection class I is not necessary.
What happens if a control unit is faulty?
If the DALI interface voltage is lost, all the ECGs will go to the "System Failure Level". This depends on the control unit used (ECG factory setting: 100 % light).
Does the polarity of the DALI control line need to be taken into consideration when connecting the control gear?
Generally yes, but when using OSRAM DALI control gears there is no need to worry about polarity.
Is the data lost in the ECG in case of a power failure?
No, the data is permanently stored in the ECG. It is retained even after a lengthy power outage.
